Picking and Placing (2P’s)

 Most important thing to make money of betting is “Picking” and “Placing”. We call it as “2P’s”. Picking the correct selection and Placing appropriate proportion of the investment is way to success. In our previous post, we try to explain different risk based strategies to pick selections. In this blog, we will try to cover few different investment strategies that help you to find portion of investment on each selected selection. 

Proportionate Investment

As name suggest, we give normalised investment proportion to the selected selections. For the eligible selections, take their probabilities and normalised them. Multiply normalised probability with maximum amount you would like to wager. We have explained it in the following example.

 

Lets take an example of "Top N Strategy" from our previous blog. Following probabilities were generated from our EAP and LAP. In this race, selection 3 and 7 are Top 30% highest generated probabilities. We are considering Top 30% where as you might consider Top 40% as well which include 3, 7 and 1.

Following is the table where we have taken selection 3 and 7's generated EAP that is 0.23719497 and 0.21081086 respectively. Normalising these probabilities comes out as 53% of investment will go to selection 3 and 47% of investment will go to selection 7. If you choose to invest $100 on this race then $53 would go to selection 3 and $47 will go to selection 7. You could invest in Win/Show/Place pool.

Inverse Proportionate Investment

In this method, we just take inverse of Ashva Probs before normalizing. Previous proportional investment is more incline toward favourite selection however inverse strategy tends to invest less on favourite. This can give you better results if track is having lower strike rate of favourite selections.

Based on inverse strategy, we will invest 53% on selection 7 and 47% on selection 3.

There is no right or wrong rules for which investment idea to use. There are more complex investment strategies that we have developed and used however for someone who want to start betting can use these simple ones.
